During the 20th century in the Czech Republic, especially under communist rule, imported sweets and ingredients were scarce. Families got creative in the kitchen—crafting festive desserts from what was available. One of the most beloved inventions was Vánoční salám (Christmas Salami), a no-bake roll made of crushed biscuits, cocoa, and butter, shaped to mimic real salami.
Once upon a time, there was a scary witch by the name of Helga. She lived in the woods and came out on the night of Halloween to scare kids and to steal their Halloween treats. All the kids in the neighborhood were scared of her. What they didn't know was that Helga was scared of pumpkins.
On Christmas day grandma was making snowball cookies. The kids wanted to go play on the big snow mountain and throw snowballs at each other. But someone had to help grandma make the cookies. As soon as grandma took out the big bag of flour, the kids started making a big mountain of flour on the table and calling it "snow mountain."
