Holiday “Salami” Roll - Czech Republic

During the 20th century in the Czech Republic, especially under communist rule, imported sweets and ingredients were scarce. Families got creative in the kitchen—crafting festive desserts from what was available. One of the most beloved inventions was Vánoční salám (Christmas Salami), a no-bake roll made of crushed biscuits, cocoa, and butter, shaped to mimic real salami.

Its playful appearance made it a hit with children, while its easy prep made it a holiday staple. Passed down through generations, this “sweet salami” became a symbol of imagination, tradition, and joy during the Czech Christmas season.
